Why indoor air quality is endangering your health
When you think of air quality, you probably think of outside: of polluting factories; of exhaust fumes from cars. But in fact, the real danger lies inside.
Our 5G Early Access Program reached a new dimension at the beginning of the year by testing across the ocean together with T-Mobile US. The 4th batch of startups successfully tested our APIs on-site in both Berlin and Seattle. With this cohort, we ended the first phase of the Early Access Program which brought a wealth of learnings with it. We are currently updating the existing testbeds in Berlin and Seattle and building a third one in Krakow. We expect to commence the Early Access Program testing again in the second half of 2023.
Over the course of the program, our research team ran interviews with the participants to evaluate learnings from each of the batches and to suggest improvements for the respective next steps of the program and the APIs.
We have learned much more than this, of course, and will share some further insights over the next weeks. In the meantime, you may already download your copy of our Research Report here.
The participants of this 4th batch brought interesting use cases around AR, holography, drones, and cashier systems. Let’s see what they are.
Auki Labs is working on a decentralized protocol for collaborative spatial computing. It is based on a peer-to-peer positioning system which gives every cubic millimeter an address. The ambition is to replace the GPS system and enable a persistent and privacy-preserving metaverse.
Since this solution sends position updates up to 60 times per second, it would profit from lower latency to enable a fully immersive AR experience, as the test showed.
H3 Dynamics is offering autonomous drones in a box (DBX). DBX is like an onsite drone pilot which enables all operations: navigation, docking, battery charging, data retrieval, transmission, and cloud-based processing, with all those operations being totally autonomously and remotely operated.
Forma Vision develops a holographic meeting platform which offers face-to-face remote meeting experiences. The vision is to create a transformative user experience when communicating online.
Enfore provides cash register solutions which are synchronized in real time with the cloud. Its use case is based on a scenario in which hundreds of cash registers at a live event have to be connected via a LAN network. While the devices can be connected with SIM cards, the cells were too crowded by the visitors.
Introducing QoD APIs would not only save money, but also a lot of time, as the digging and set-up process of a LAN at any given venue usually takes 2−3 weeks.
MATSUKO develops a holographic presence app that uses only a smartphone to stream people as holograms in real 3D. It allows everyone to experience holograms at meetings, training, workshops, events, and calls.
MATSUKO was testing in both testbeds in Berlin and in Seattle. They also successfully tested the API with handovers between Deutsche Telekom and Orange networks.
